For example let's say I cube a war scepter and spawns with the mechanic's prefix. For the shake of argument, both the recipe and the affix give 2 sockets. Does it get:
- 4 Sockets (the mods stack).
- 3 Sockets (due to iLvL constraints).
- 2 Sockets (they don't stack).
Somewhat related: What staffmods are going to be able to spawn on the scepter in question?|||I don't think it work on already socked items.|||Quote:

I don't think it does either. If you roll a magic item using the 3 chipped gems + magic weapon recipe, you get a new magic item (thus, with new affixes) plus 1-2 sockets. If the rolled item has the mechanic's prefix, what happens?|||1-2 sockets on a 50/50 basis. No stacking.|||Quote:

Aha, figured that it was going to be the worst alternative

Look here
Scroll down to the Quote from Uzziah.|||More specifically, since the ilvl of item from the chipped gem recipe is 25, the default is tier 4 staffmods (for your scepter Tier 4 paladin staffmods are Vengeance, Blessed Hammer, Concentration, Holy Freeze, Vigor) with 20% chance for tier 5, 20% chance for tier 3 and 10% chance of tier 2.|||OK, what happens if you roll Artisans or Jewelers? |||Quote:

You can't, not with 25 iLvL anyway.
I'm currently rerolling a scepter to doublecheck this information everyone. Haven't received an artisan's scepter yet (~10 tries, chipped gems are a ***** to find :P).|||Quote:

It should be possible if the qlvl of the weapon is high enough. If you can roll Cruel (alvl=51), Artisans (alvl=33) shouldnt be a problem with any decent qlvl weapon.
Hmm, maybe I should take some of my retired tourney characters (I think some has a load of chippies) and try...
