Damage Reduction Question

What is the estimated % of damage reduction for a SOL rune? It says 7 pts. How does that translate compared to say % DR on a string of ears or rockstopper? Is it better to have 50% dr or lots of points, such as socketed SOLs?|||Liberty Prime is online. Answers: hot. Mission: answering the questions of ALL red Chinese invaders.

Question detected. Composition: quantity of damage reduction of a SOL rune. Probability of damage hindrance? ZERO PERCENT.

Sol runes do 7 DR. This is an integer, not a percentage. A comparison of % to integer depends highly on the damage taken. A fallen doing 2-3 damage in the early moor isn't affected much by 15% DR. 7 DR negates him. 50% DR helps a lot vs a frenzytaur. 50 points reduced does not.

It's a context thing, but both are good to have.|||There are three main areas in which Integer damage reduction might make a very noticeable improvement:

1) You are already at the 50 percent cap for -%dmg reduction. Percentage is capped, but you can still add Integer and gain benefit.

2) You are using a skill that provides -%dmg reduction, like the sorc skill Energy Shield. This one for example is capped at -95%, and adding some Sol runes and perhaps Max Block, can make you feel almost like a God :O

3) You are making a defensive build (there are guides floating around), and are stacking Integer dmg reduction in every slot. Really capitalizing on this is hard, since you mostly need to self-find tons of rare gear, but in the end you could end up with a char that stands in the middle of Hell Ancients laughing.|||it's also important to know that PDR/MDR is calculated *before* resists (but after ES). If a monster hits you for 100 damage, and you have 50% damage resist and 20 PDR, you'll take 40 damage because of (100 - 20) * 0.5 = 40. If you have 80 PDR, and are amped, the calculation becomes (100 - 80) * 2 = 40 again. Add another 20 PDR and you'd take no damage, amped or with 50% DR.

This means that when going extreme on DR, it's possible to negate ALL physical damage (except for the most extreme hits like Fire Enchanted Lister the Tormentor on NM or very strong monsters (Korlic, anyone?) under might aura) completely, and not be afraid of amp. However, this requires some very hard to get gear. Jeweller's Armor of Amicae "SolSolSolSol", etc.|||Quote:

Makes me want to build another Abbott... Now Iso Priest's Amulet of Life Everlasting... Off to the trade forums...|||Damage reduced by xx and damage reduced by xx% are two different thing. Dmg xx% is capped to 50%. As for dmg xx, im not too sure what the cap is for that.|||Quote:

There is no cap on iPDR.
