Armor absorb

Supposedly various types of armor have a hidden property called "absorb".

Breast Plate and Light Plate and their upgraded versions have absorb of 1.

Field Plate and Full Plate Mail and their upgraded versions have absorb of 2.

Finally Ancient Armor and it's upgraded versions has absorb of 5.

My question is, what is it and what does it do?|||I've read about that too. I don't remember exactly what the answer was when I asked about it, but it was either that it's completely false or that it is from earlier (WAY earlier) versions.|||D20 system Diablo perhaps... ?

I've never heard of this.|||Hmm, i would like to know more about it though, if armor (still) does have such a hidden property. (if they ever had one at all)|||In Armor.txt there is an 'absorbs' column. Almost all armor have a value of 0 but the following have non-zero absorb:

Code:
Breast Plate 1
Light Plate 1
Tower Shield 1
Cuirass 1
Mage Plate 1
Pavise 1
Great Hauberk 1
Archon Plate 1
Aegis 1
Field Plate 2
Full Plate Mail 2
Sharktooth Armor 2
Chaos Armor 2
Kraken Shell 2
Shadow Plate 2
Ancient Armor 5
Ornate Armor 5
Sacred Armor 5

(you left out the Tower Shield and upgrades in your OP)

I can't tell you what it means, but obviously it had some purpose once in a pre-release or earlier version.
