Infinity - Why is it "best" with lightning sorcs?

[:1]I was wondering, wouldn't frozen orb/meteor sorc benefit more from the damage increase + resist break?|||the simple answer is that yes, it does help with those two, but only on the ones you can kill anyway. lighting immunities are the ones that are generally breakable by infinity. cold and fire are usually unable to be broken by infinity making it ineffective vs those immunities.

it'll help you kill the stuff you can kill faster, but not the stuff you cant kill|||But I thought Infinity breaks those cold/fire immunities.|||Like he said: It breaks most lighting immunes, and won't break most fire/cold immunes.|||^Pretty much this. Some cold/fire immune champs that are cold immune through bonuses like magic resistance or spectral hit can be broken by Conviction though, which in combination with the -res from CM (which works at 100% effectiveness) makes for a very easy kill.

With a meteorb you're limited in how fast you can go through areas because you can't really damage all the monsters at the same time, unlike a light build which just steamlols over everything. At the moment I'm using blizz/nova which works quite well, but it does need very good equipment to really compete with a (even modestly equipped) infi/lightning char.|||Well I'm not talking about meteorb, just a pure fire sorc or pure cold sorc.

Why doesn't infinity's conviction break Cold Immune/Fire Immune but does break Lightning Immune?|||Here's the details: http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=658719|||Quick summary: Infinity reduces immunities by 85% on non-immune monsters, and by 17% on immune monsters.

Immune monsters may have immunities much higher than 117%. Any monster with an immunity more than 117% will not be broken by Infinity.

The typical immunities of LI monsters are in the 100-110% range and can often be broken. Typical immunities of FI are often 120% or higher, and CI often 150% or higher.

So as far as the typical monsters encountered, Infinity breaks lightning immunities much more consistently. There are some monsters for which Infinity will not break the LI, but those are far less common than the same for CI and FI.|||Hm I thought the answer was "- target light res" found on conviction runeword, so it makes "extra" damage increase when using lightning spells with conviction-using sorc, and ctc chain lightning (synergies+mastery adds a lot). Doesnt it count too?|||No, -elr on infinity only works for the weilder (the merc) you get the benefit of that -elr only if you self weild the infinity. That is why a light sorc needs things like Griffin's helm so much. The conviction breaks the immunity, then the -elr works at full strength on a broken immunity.
