poison per sec help

I have a question about poison damage. If I have a poison sc that does damage over 3 seconds and another poison sc that does damage over 6 seconds then how many seconds do I get?

Well I need somebody to elaborate how this all works.|||Have a look here: http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=711678

Think that should be what you where after.|||Simple answer: You get (6+3)/2=4.5sec. This is rough calculation.

Poison dmg is calculated per frame, not per second. So the duration displayed in seconds and the damage in integer are approximate. For details look here.

P.S. Pawned by Kijya. |||Quote:

You get (6+3)/2=4.5sec.

wut? How did you calculate this?

When stacking various poison sources, both rate and duration and added. So one source with 3 seconds and duration and another with 6 seconds will result in 9second poisoning.

It is good to treat poison sources as "X damage per second for Y seconds" instead of that messy "A damage for B seconds". Then total poison damage from sourse 1 and 2 will look like "X1+X2 damage per second, for Y1+Y2 seconds". Two similar charms will not double the total damage, but make it 4x, because both duration and rate is doubled.|||Quote:

Ok I get the part with the seconds part but im still confused with this part:

Alternatively, a combined rate of (100/5) + (50/6) poison damage per second is applied for (5 + 6) seconds, resulting in approximately 312 poison damage over 11 seconds.

How would 100 and 50 poison damage become 312 poison damage? Im still confused with that part. I would like to know how that works so I know how a 451 poison dmg sc is possible too.|||@Lotus: Nope, Victus is right. You're confusing multiple mods on a single item with mulitple items

Like he says, with two mods on a single item, both the rates (damage per time, not just damage) and lengths are summed.

So 100/5 = 20 dmg per sec over 5 secs

and 50/6 = 8.33 dmg per sec over 6 secs

giving 20 + 8.33 = 28.33 dmg per sec over 11 secs

which is ~312 dmg over 11 secs

If you've got two different items, the rates are summed but the lengths are averaged. I.e. if the 100/5 and 50/6 appear on different items it would give

100/5 = 20 dmg per sec over 5 secs

and 50/6 = 8.33 dmg per sec over 6 secs

giving 20 + 8.33 = 28.33 dmg per sec over 5.5 secs

which is ~155 dmg over 5.5 secs

Take note that it's more accurate when you use bitrates as in the link, these are just examples to help you understand.|||Black lotus got the sources mixed up, if you get multiple poison mods on a single item both rates and lengths add as he says. However poison from different items give added bitrates and averaged length. Poison skills change change things to ... the guide explains it in detail.|||Quote:

Then can you elaborate how it works? Im getting confused now 2 people are agreeing with something different than another person.|||I've never known about averaging lenghts, and I've read the guide through a few seasons ago and was sure i had got everything right. Although I've never played a build which relies on poison mostly, this is a shame I corrected Victus without double checking. With this input, things are much more complicated. If we take

SC 312 dmg over 11 secs

+

snakecord 12 damage over 3 secs

we will get (28.33+4)=32,33 per second over (11+3)/2=7 seconds, resulting in 226,31 damage total?|||Quote:

Onderduiker's explanation is pretty clear. If you don't get it use his great poison damage calculator.
