Best lvl to gamble rings & boots?

I did a cursory search and didn't find this info. First off, is there any kind of calculator where you can put in the desired affixes and it will tell you the optimal level to gamble them, and the optimal areas to hunt for them? Also, I found conflicting info on affixes on gambling. Right now I'm assuming you ideally need clvl = ilvl+5 for max chance when gambling, if this is wrong please tell me.

Anyway, I tried to figure it out on my own for boots and rings. Here's the affixes I listed as desirable for each, with ilvls in parentheses (bold would be highest priority for caster-magic finder)

Rare Rings:

Prefixes:

MF (5)

Mana (1-2, 6, 14, 20, 24, 30, 37)

Single Resist (1-4, 12, 18)

Resist all (45, 56)

Suffixes:

FCR (5)

MF (12)

Str (1-4, 21, 38, 55, 74)

Dex (1-5, 22, 39, 56)

Energy (1-4, 13, 21, 31)

Life (8, 17, 34, 51, 68)

LL (14, 47, 77)

ML (25, 58, 86)

Rare Boots:

Prefixes:

Mana (1-2, 37, 52)

Single Resist (1-4, 12, 18, 25)

Suffixes:

Dex (1-12, 34, 46)

FHR (5)

FRW (12, 22, 37)

GF (17)

MF (12, 16)

So to get all possible affixes on a caster ring with resist all (the highest important one) you would have to gamble at 56+5 = L61? Or, if you give up on resist all, you could gamble at 18+5 = L23.

For boots, you could gamble at 37+5 = L42 for fastest FRW, or 25+5 = L30 if you want to accept slower FRW.

However, the other problem is that lower level rares generate less affixes. I can't even find the list of these, but I think it goes by levels of 20. Like at ILVL 80+ it gets 6 affixes for sure; at ILVL 60-79 it gets a 1/6 chance of 5 and a 5/6 chance of 6, etc. But I don't know for sure.

ANOTHER issue is cost of gambling, at least for boots. Raising the clvl increases # of affixes, let's say that improved your chance, but it also cost more, such that it would have been a better deal to gamble at the lower level.

If anyone can confirm any of this, or if these calcs have already been done showing the optimal clvls for gambling these, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!|||Quote:

Yes, this looks right for rings.

You need a little higher than that. For armor and weapons in general, alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2 most of the time (the exception is if qlvl or ilvl is very high (60s or so); then alvl='highest of ilvl and qlvl'*2-99).

The qlvl for Boots (the lowliest type) is 3, so alvl for them is usually ilvl-3/2. The 3/2 gets rounded down to 1, so you want ilvl 38 on the boots. So gambling at clvl 43 should work (or clvl 31 if you accept slower FRW).

If the gambled pair happens to get upgraded to Demonhide Boots (which is quite possible since DB have qlvl=36), you are screwed for most of the good affixes at this low ilvl.

Have never head of this for rares, and my experience is not along these lines. Plus I KNOW that I have made an ilvl 78 imbue with only 3 affixes.

Crafted items work a bit like this, though. ilvl 71+ guarantees the maximum 4 random affixes for them.|||Quote:

I see ... and then you would have to pick ONLY "Boots", vastly increasing the amount of time required to gamble. Again that makes me wonder about what level is really "best" to gamble boots at. Say you could go up some amount of levels to include Heavy Boots and Chain Boots, and only introduce 1 or 2 new "bad" affixes, would that be worth it etc. It seems like such a pain to calculate all that by hand. No one has made a calculator for this purpose?? I'm really tempted to code one, I'd just want to know I had the right information (affix tables, concrete info on number of affixes for a rare, promotion to exceptional/elite, etc.)
