Disappearing items on the ground?

[:1]So, I was transferring essences, keys, a treachery runeword, and a monarch but I have to go to the bathroom. When I come back, the monarch is left. A minute later the monarch disappears..

I assume that if you leave items on the ground for a certain amount of time, they begin to disappear? I am 100% sure none of these items are duped, as I found them all myself.

edit: And I was pretty sad, to say the least.|||Yes items disappear after certain time.|||http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/basics.shtml

Quote:

Items and Gold Disappear after time when left on the ground

Don't leave items or gold lying on the ground any longer than necessary, especially when transferring in town ("muling") as they disappear after a certain amount of time:

10 minutes: Key, Potion, Scroll, Tome, and Ammo (Arrows, Bolts).

10 minutes: Any Armor and Weapon of quality < magic, regardless if flagged as ''Ethereal'', ''Socketed'' or not, and Rune Words.

10 minutes: Pandemonium artifacts (Key of Terror/Hate/Destruction, Mephisto's Brain, Diablo's Horn, Baal's Eye).

10 minutes: Essence (4 flavours) and Token of Absolution (these are new items from Patch 1.13x).

20 minutes: Magic Items, Gems and Runes.

30 minutes: Rare, Set, Unique and Crafted Items.

Picking an item onto your cursor and dropping it again resets the timer.

Yea, I have lost several (and valuable!) socketed items because I took more than 10 minutes dealing with other items. Try to develop a habit to touch the "idling" items on the ground, say, every three or four character changes - which take less than 10 minutes for me.

One little trick to reset the timers is to use a character with no room in inventory, and run around clicking on each item on the ground. It will look like the character is tossing the items up in the air. The reason of doing this is to save the time from opening up the inventory screen and dropping each item back on the ground. Particularly helpful when you transfer 1x1 items!|||Oh man, thanks for the info guys. I think this happened to me once a few years ago, but at the time I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on.|||Running cows at high player counts can create too much stuff on the ground to actually see everything, so sometimes it's worth coming back in 15 minutes after playing somewhere else to see if you missed anything worthwhile.|||That's not very useful if you're looking for socketables, though, because those will be gone, too. I usually just pick up lots of gold and potions (immediately drinking them) to clear up the screen. Nice thing to do in baal runs, too, by the way (the screen does get cluttered really quick, doesn't it). There's nothing to do while waiting for the next wave to spawn anyway. |||That's true about socketed and socketables- hopefully I spot those on the first time! I find sometimes it's worth coming back for a second look just to see if I missed anything of note. Combing through the drops carefully takes too much time on cows, so I would rather collect 75% of the good drops at a doublespeed pace than 100% of the drops at a singlespeed pace.|||Yea... I lost some socketed gear by leaving it on the ground too long. THAT wont happen again...
